The town was named for Hector Authier, a pioneer of the colonial era.

The Bellefeuille and Macamic rivers create a picturesque backdrop as they criss-cross the locality. Authier-Nord boasts a wealth of wildlife and aquatic resources, making it a favourite with hunting and fishing enthusiasts, who can also count on the village’s grocery store and gas station to stock up before setting off on their wilderness expeditions.

Forestry and farming also play key roles in the local economy.
